About
Hi. I’m Wing. This is a weblog where I ramble on about folk dancing, music, math, art, teaching and all the intersections of those things. The adjective “folk” in the previous sentence may not just apply to “dancing”. It may apply to all the other nouns too. What is folk math? What is folk teaching? These are wonderful questions that I probably don’t have enough time to explore.
I lied. Let’s explore it a little bit.
My instinctive answer would be that folk math involves lots of cows and banjos and it is taught outdoors in a comfortable geometric shape.
Serendipitously, perhaps, I spend most of my time teaching math to creative, hard-working high school students on a farm. The cows are always close by. There is a severe lack of banjos, sadly. I guess I’ll have to compensate by learning how to play the mandolin.
